Commitment to Long-Term Preservation

The Journal of Digital Sociohumanities (JDS) is fully dedicated to safeguarding the long-term accessibility, discoverability, and preservation of all published scholarly content. We recognize the critical importance of digital archiving in ensuring that current and future generations of researchers, students, and the public can access the knowledge we disseminate.

To uphold this commitment, JDSH partners with established preservation services and adheres to globally recognized digital archiving standards, including participation in the PKP Preservation Network (PKP PN) and the implementation of the Lots of Copies Keep Stuff Safe (LOCKSS) principle.

PKP Preservation Network (PKP PN)

Journal of Digital Sociohumanities actively participates in the Public Knowledge Project (PKP) Preservation Network (PN), a trusted global initiative designed to preserve open access scholarly content. Through PKP PN, JDSH ensures that:

  • All published articles are securely deposited into a decentralized digital preservation network.

  • Articles remain accessible even in the event of journal platform failure, website downtime, or publisher disruption.

  • Preservation copies are continually validated and checked for integrity.

This initiative guarantees that JDSH content remains permanently available to readers and researchers worldwide.

Adopting the LOCKSS Principle

Journal of Digital Sociohumanities embraces the Lots of Copies Keep Stuff Safe (LOCKSS) concept, which emphasizes the importance of maintaining multiple copies of scholarly content across various locations and systems. By doing so, the journal enhances the resilience, redundancy, and security of its archiving infrastructure, significantly reducing the risk of data loss and ensuring that knowledge remains accessible despite unforeseen technical challenges.

Use of the PKP PN Archiving Plugin

To streamline and automate the archiving process, Journal of Digital Sociohumanities employs the PKP PN Archiving Plugin, a free tool provided by the Public Knowledge Project. This plugin:

  • Automatically deposits published articles into the PKP PN network.

  • Ensures that archiving is timely, reliable, and consistent.

  • Contributes to the broader ecosystem of open-access preservation and dissemination.

Compliance and Continuous Review

Journal of Digital Sociohumanities regularly reviews and updates its archiving policies and practices to align with the latest digital preservation standards and best practices. Our editorial and technical teams actively monitor the effectiveness of our archiving strategies and remain open to adopting additional preservation solutions as they emerge.

By maintaining a proactive approach, the journal ensures that its scholarly publications are preserved with integrity, reliability, and longevity.
