The Journal of Digital Sociohumanities (JDS) is firmly committed to advancing open access and the free exchange of scholarly knowledge. This policy outlines the permissions and conditions under which authors can archive and share different versions of their work, in accordance with our Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International License (CC BY-NC 4.0). We recognize that authors retain full copyright over their work and encourage responsible archiving to enhance research visibility and collaboration.


Pre-Print Archiving

  • Definition: The pre-print is the original draft of the manuscript prior to peer review and formal editorial processing.

  • Archiving Permission: Authors may archive pre-prints on personal websites, institutional repositories, and reputable non-commercial pre-print servers.

  • Conditions:

    • Authors must retain copyright.

    • The archived version should include a statement indicating that it has not yet undergone peer review.

    • When available, authors are encouraged to update the record with a link to the final published version.


Post-Print Archiving

  • Definition: The post-print refers to the author-accepted manuscript after peer review and revisions, but before publisher formatting and typesetting.

  • Archiving Permission: Authors are encouraged to deposit post-prints in institutional or disciplinary repositories, as well as on personal websites or non-commercial platforms.

  • Conditions:

    • The archived post-print must clearly identify the version and include a citation and link to the official published article on the Journal of Digital Sociohumanities website.

    • All non-commercial sharing must comply with the CC BY-NC 4.0 license.


Publisher’s Version / PDF Archiving

  • Definition: The publisher’s version is the final, formatted, and typeset article as it appears on the journal website or official publication platform.

  • Archiving Permission: Authors may archive the publisher’s version/PDF in:

    • Institutional repositories

    • Non-commercial academic repositories

    • Personal or departmental websites

There is no embargo period; authors may share the publisher’s version immediately upon publication.


License and Conditions

All archived versions (pre-print, post-print, and publisher’s version) must:

  • Include a Creative Commons CC BY-NC 4.0 license statement.

  • Attribute the original authors and the Journal of Digital Sociohumanities as the source.

  • Provide a DOI or stable link to the official published article where possible.

The CC BY-NC 4.0 license allows non-commercial use, sharing, and adaptation of the work, provided proper credit is given and any derivative works are distributed under similar terms.


Compliance and Author Responsibilities

Authors are responsible for:

  • Ensuring that their archiving practices comply with JDSH policies and licensing terms.

  • Providing clear attribution to JDSH and acknowledging the official published version when sharing archived materials.

  • Updating repository records with final publication details when available.


Policy Review and Updates

The Journal of Digital Sociohumanities regularly reviews its repository and archiving policies to align with evolving best practices in open access publishing. Any updates will be communicated transparently to authors and made publicly available on the journal’s website.
